From Heart Comonos:

“Heart Comonos has been awarded a grant from the Hazel McCallion Arts & Culture Fund to produce a mural artwork on the south facing wall of the TowerPops + Heart Comonos Cooksville Community Summer Programming Zone located at 67 Hillcrest, Cooksville Mississauga ON L5B. We are calling on local artists and/or collectives in the Mississauga area to submit mural design proposals who can, upon selection, help bring their artwork to life by leading the painting process with our volunteers and community members.

Submission Deadline: Friday, August 1, 2025, 11:59pm

Competition Award: $2000

Lead Artists Installation Payment: $3,500

Mural Completion Deadline: September 30th , 2025

Aiming to illustrate the beautiful diversity of the Cooksville area in ways that feel culturally and aesthetically relevant to our community members, we surveyed our community to ask about their mural design preferences.

Based on the results from our surveys, the winning submission will in some way
include aspects or combinations of the following:

1) Scenery/background: Canadian natural landscapes like rivers/lakes, waterfalls, parks, and/or landmarks local to the Cooksville area;
2) Themes: Historical events or monuments, cultural diversity, and/or community pride;
3) Symbolism: Peace/love, flowers/trees, Canadian flag, music, books, and/or rainbows.

The artist or collective of the winning submission will be awarded $2000, and an additional $3,500 after the completion of the mural (on the preferred condition that the submitting artist or collective will also lead and guide the painting process.)

Selection process:

Applications will be reviewed by the Heart Comonos staff and community members, and selected based on creativity, originality, and feasibility, as well as artist’s inclusion of the surveyed themes, symbols, and ideas.
