Get ready to master the tiles and step up your game! This interactive session will begin with a short talk (beginning at 7:00pm) exploring the history of Mahjong, its cultural significance, the meaning of the tiles, and how the game has evolved over time and across different communities.

Participants will then be guided through the basics of gameplay, with opportunities to learn the rules, ask questions, and try playing Mahjong in a welcoming and supportive environment. Bond with a welcoming community of players, learn something new, and reinvigorate your love of Mahjong!

Please Note: No gambling will be permitted and no previous experience is required. The session is intended for ages 16+. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Want, please consider donating to support future workshops like this one!

About the Facilitator: Mah Jong Karen grew up in Hong Kong but it wasn’t until after immigrating to Canada that she learnt the basic game of Mah Jong by playing with her family. To this day, her Mom continues to rule as the true Diva. Mah Jong Karen loves this Chinese game of luck, strategy and speed. It is exhilarating to outrun and outwit your opponents to grasp the winning hand! It is her ultimate goal to master this game and turn into a worthy adversary for her Mom at the Mah Jong Table.
