Mississauga’s own Triumph is back in the spotlight — their 1979 anthem “Lay It On the Line” soared to #1 on Shazam’s Top 200 Canada last week, driven by its feature in Sportsnet’s NHL Playoffs promotional campaign. The iconic classic rock track is hitting home with a new generation of listeners, reminding everyone of Triumph’s lasting sound and influence.

It’s a full-circle moment for drummer and co-founder Gil Moore, who helped shape Canadian rock history and built a legacy right here in Mississauga with Metalworks Studios, the renowned recording facility that’s supported sessions from countless legendary artists and rising talent alike.

And while “Lay It On The Line” makes its waves across the country, Gil Moore is also being celebrated separately here in Mississauga. On May 22, 2025, he will receive the Gordon S. Shipp Citizen of the Year Award at the Mississauga Civic Awards presented by Cornerstone Association of REALTORS. The award recognizes his commitment to decades of local community service, philanthropy, and belief in music’s power to create change.
