Showing NOW through June 27 at the VAB Artway Gallery in Shoppers World
From Smoke ‘n Mirrors to Selfies & Beyond …
- an educational exhibit about the development of photography with a nod to its imagined future, also featuring
- work from seven photographers who were integral to the success and development of ecmunson’s CONTACT Photography shows from 2022 – to present, hung in five towns at eight galleries
This is a seven-month touring exhibit and ecmunson’s Studio By Design’s 5th annual show registered with the renowned CONTACT Photography Festival, now in its 30th year. It moves into VAB’s Studio Gallery the end of June and hangs there through mid-September. It will hang in October at the Shelburne Town Hall Gallery moving in November to the Café Gallery in Georgetown.
The History of Photography, From Smoke ‘n Mirrors, and Future of Photography, to Selfies & Beyond, are three posters that bookend this exhibit. The photography hung between these educational components, is largely a retrospective from ecmunson’s past CONTACT shows. Colleen Dee, VAB’s Vice President has hung and curated the 2026 show plus several of the other exhibits from 2022 onwards.
All the exhibitors are established with arts practices that include international exhibits, work in juried exhibitions, solo shows, memberships in professional societies and arts groups, and collectors from the global community. The genres range from formal studio work with portraiture, to the more candid captures of people in communities or their own settings, urban scenes, landscape, plus the precursor to darkroom work, cyanotype printing. The various printing media/strata used includes photographic prints with archival pigmented inks, polished aluminum, and watercolour art paper.
Special events connected with this touring show will happen in Brampton and Shelburne. Two paid workshops: alternate method photographic print making with non-toxic chemicals, one at Visual Arts Brampton Sunday afternoon, 1 to 3 pm, June 14 and the second in Shelburne at STREAMS, a local group offering arts and culture based workshops, date to be decided in midOctober. Led by internationally renowned photographer, Aditi Ganeev Sangwan, people will create their own piece with a method that is a precursor to traditional darkroom work. Details below for registration.

The second event is free and will be Creatives in Conversation – behind the lens!, an interactive and lively discussion amongst the exhibiting photographers about their passions with art photography. This is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, from 10 to 11:30 am, at Visual Art Brampton’s Open Studio.
Light refreshments served from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm with a chance to speak with the photographers: Greg Coman, Sarbina Leeder, ecmunson, Frank Myers, Andrzej Pradzynski, Sherry Prenevost, and Aditi Ganeev Sangwan and enjoy the display of their creative photographic projects.
