Nominations are now being accepted for theย Gordon S. Shipp Memorial Award forย Citizenย of the Year. Named in memory of Gordon S. Shipp, who was a local custom home builder and Chairman of the Board of Shipp Corporation Ltd., the award commemorates Shippโs legacy of dedication and service to the community.
Mississauga residents eligible for this award are those who have unselfishly given their time and energy to make a positive difference in the community and make life better forย citizens.
Recipients are those who have shown outstanding leadership, community service and philanthropic efforts. They are known for their positive attitude and ability to inspire others through unmatched teamwork and commitment.
How to submit a nomination
Nominations are open until April 6, 2026. The process is simple:
- Visit the Cityโsย Civic Recognition webpage: Mississauga.ca/CivicRec
- Review theย Citizenย of the Year award criteria
- Given their time and energy, for the betterment of the community and itsย citizens
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership, community service, or philanthropic commitment
- Inspired others through a positive attitude, collaboration, and dedication to civic life
- Emailย civicrecognition.program@mississauga.caย with a detailed description of the nomineeโs achievements and contributions
A volunteer selection committee will review all submissions and bring forward a recommendation to Mississauga City Council for final approval.
The recipient of theย Citizenย of the Year Award will be invited to receive their award during an evening ceremony at Mississauga City Hall later this year.
Community groups play an important role in helping identify those members of our community whose quiet leadership and generosity often go unrecognized.

Background
As approved by Council in late last year, the City of Mississauga is now responsible for the Gordon S. Shipp Memorial Award forย Citizenย of the Year. The award was last presented in May 2025 by Cornerstone Association of REALTORSยฎ and will be presented in 2026 as part of the Cityโs annual Civic Recognition evening this fall.
