Festival allows visitors to ‘travel the world’ without stepping foot outside the city
“The annual Carassauga Festival of Cultures is back for its 38th year, running from May 26 to 28.
The largest multicultural festival in Canada will begin with opening ceremonies only on May 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the remainder of the event beginning May 27 from noon to midnight. On May 28, the final day, the festival will be open from noon to 7 p.m.
Carassauga has been celebrating multiculturalism since its inception in 1986 and features pavilions at various cultural and recreation centres in Mississauga, where different entertainment, food and cultures are celebrated, allowing visitors to “travel the world” without stepping foot outside the city.
“Carassauga’s vision is to organize a city-wide family friendly multicultural festival suitable for all ages to promote understanding, respect and co-operation among all Canadians of different heritage,” reads the festival’s website.
The full list of locations can be found at carassauga.com, along with a festival site map.
Admission is $15 for a passport, which gives the purchaser unlimited access to all cultural pavilions. Children aged 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult passport holder.
The passport also allows free ridership on all MiWay regularly scheduled bus routes and on special Carassauga buses connecting festival locations during operating hours.
Passports can be purchased on the festival website and in-person at any festival entrance. They can also be purchased at various libraries and community centres in Mississauga.
